The interest, and regard, that metalcasters have for the past never fails to impress me. Most foundry operations, wisely, keep their workers and customers well aware of their long records of accomplishments. Some of that history is bittersweet, such as this report last week from Kendallville, IN, on the last day of operation for the Dalton Foundry plant there. Those of us old enough to remember much of this past are saddened by stories like this.
But, history also supplies us perspective, and in many cases, it evokes great admiration. This report from Chattanooga, about the history of the Webster family and its foundry, is a tale of perseverance. It's an astounding tale of human will, and a reminder to us in our current struggle that much has been endured before, and overcome.
